Para entrar nesta lista elaborada pela Fortune é preciso fazer parte de pelo menos quatro dos 10 rankings anuais desvendados pela publicação norte-americana – Fortune 500, Global 500, 100 Best Companies to Work For, Change the World, Future 50, World’s Most Admired Companies, Fastest-Growing Companies, Most Powerful Women, Most Powerful Women International ou Businessperson of the Year.
Na sua mais recente edição, o Blue Ribbon conta com três empresas empatadas no primeiro lugar: Amazon, Adobe e Progressive. Todas elas aparecem em sete dos 10 rankings da Forbes e os respectivos CEOs fazem parte da lista Businessperson of the Year. Jeff Bezos é o sétimo professional de negócios mais importante de 2020, ao passo que Shantanu Narayen ocupa a oitava posição e Tricia Griffith a décima.
